Lot 172:
Description
C-17860
c. 1950s; Galter Products Co. – Chicago, IL Pair of painted metal binoculars with textured black finish and colorful Hopalong Cassidy decal showing the cowboy hero astride his horse. Produced by Galter Products of Chicago, these novelty "sport glasses" were marketed to children during the height of William Boyd’s popularity in the role. Included with the binoculars is a Hopalong Cassidy film reel viewer attachment and original reel from the Heart of the West series (Series 4), issued by O.H. Shapiro Co., New York. Together, the set allowed children to view still film strips through the binoculars, blending toy function with character branding.
This example retains its Hopalong graphics with some loss to the decal and mild surface wear consistent with age. Box and reel show handling wear but remain legible. A fine piece of mid-century cowboy hero merchandising.
Binoculars approx. 5" W x 2.25" D x 5.25" H
