Lot 162:
Description
C-17658
This late 19th/early 20th century family portrait album is mounted on a gilt metal stand with drawer and carrying handle. The celluloid cover depicts colorful G.A.R. imagery including Union soldiers, camp scenes, a spread-winged eagle, crossed American flags, and the G.A.R. medal insignia – a fraternal emblem honoring Union veterans of the Civil War. The interior contains marbled pages with inset cabinet card portraits, framed in gilt accents. The drawer at the base was designed to hold cartes de visite or additional keepsakes, reflecting its dual role as both decorative and functional in the Victorian parlor.
Wear to the velvet and gilt trim consistent with age; interior pages show expected handling wear with some photographs missing, but overall the piece retains strong visual presence. Missing one hinge.
