Lot 159:
Description
C-17735
Set of two chrome-plated novelty nail clippers, each decorated with turquoise enamel inlay featuring red rose and gold floral motifs. Beyond their function as clippers, these pieces open to reveal additional fold-out tools, including small blades and combination bottle/can openers-transforming them into compact multi-tools. The underside is stamped with a maker’s mark, consistent with mid-century Japanese novelty imports. These dual-purpose items were popular souvenirs and gift shop novelties during the postwar decades, combining practical grooming needs with playful gadgetry. The floral enamel decoration adds a decorative touch, making them collectible both as kitschy mid-century design and as examples of multi-functional personal accessories.
Both examples show moderate wear from use, particularly on the chrome surfaces of the hidden tools, but the clippers retain their bright enamel decoration and remain structurally sound.
