Lot 158:
Description
C-17732
c. 1940s-1950s; Staub’s Tavern – Chicago, IL Celluloid-covered bullet pencil with metal cap and clip, marked "Staub’s Tavern – 4301 Armitage, Chicago, Ill. / Phone: Capitol 7-9540." The reverse features a whimsical cartoon figure alongside the phrase "I’m on my way to-." Bullet pencils, popular from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century, were frequently given away as promotional items by taverns, feed stores, and other local businesses due to their compact, pocket-friendly form and daily utility. This example reflects Staub’s Tavern’s mid-century advertising approach, providing patrons with a practical tool while ensuring the tavern’s name remained close at hand.
