General Antiques and Collectibles Spring Auction
Lot 156:
Description
C-17760
Miniature stoneware whiskey jug with applied handle and cork stopper, finished in a brown-to-tan glaze. The front is stenciled with the inscription "My Old Ky. Home – Mt. Dew, " a nod both to Kentucky’s famous state song and to the Appalachian slang for homemade whiskey ("mountain dew"). Such souvenir jugs were commonly produced in mid-20th century Kentucky and Tennessee for roadside gift shops and distillery tourism. Compact and colorful, they bridged the line between novelty barware and regional folk memorabilia, making them highly collectible today.
Condition shows light glaze wear and surface scuffs consistent with age. Cork present; no chips or cracks noted.
