c. 1933; Baltimore & Ohio Railroad – Chicago, IL Encased Lincoln Wheat Cent (1933) issued as a promotional token by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad for the 1933-34 Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago. The cent is surrounded by an aluminum ring inscribed on the obverse: "Baltimore & Ohio Railroad – Safe, Comfortable, Dependable – America’s First Railroad – First to Air-Condition Trains." Reverse reads: "Baltimore & Ohio Railroad – All Trains East & West Thru Washington – Chicago 1933 – A Century of Progress." Encased cents like this were popular souvenirs at fairs and expositions, combining a circulating coin with advertising. This example highlights B&O’s innovations and its promotion as America’s first passenger railroad.
Token shows light circulation wear with toning and small surface marks; inscriptions remain clear and legible on both sides.
