Lot 141:
Description
C-17722
c. 1910s-1920s; mfd. by The Whitehead & Hoag Co. for The American Tobacco Co. – Durham, NC Celluloid pocket hand mirror advertising Mascot Crushed Cut Tobacco, with bold red border and central image of a small brown dog wearing a studded collar. Text around the rim reads "5¢ in pouch, in tins it would cost you double" and promotes use "for pipe and cigarette." The reverse side holds the original glass mirror insert, typical of early 20th-century giveaway advertising novelties. Mascot Tobacco was one of many regional brands during the golden age of American tobacco marketing, when celluloid buttons and mirrors were popular promotional tools. These small, practical items doubled as advertisements, ensuring daily visibility for the brand while appealing to customers through eye-catching graphics and humorous or relatable mascots.
Mirror shows light age wear and surface spotting, but retains strong color and clarity to the lithographed celluloid face.
2.25" Dia.
