Precision surveyor’s transit level housed in its original dovetailed wooden carrying case with leather strap and metal buckle. Manufacturer’s plate on the exterior reads “Model Number 789.46190” with ordering information for Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A., and Simpsons-Sears Limited, Canada. The instrument features a cast metal body with textured gray finish, brass adjustment knobs, leveling screws, graduated horizontal circle, and integrated telescope with focusing adjustment. Interior case retains green felt supports, printed instruction sheet (“How to Adjust Bubbles”), manual of instructions, parts list, plumb bobs, and adjustment tool. Blocks inside the lid show aged foam remnants, and interior compartments are labeled “EYE END” and cautionary placement instructions.
Shows expected age and use including surface wear to the painted body, oxidation to metal components, aging and cracking to the leather strap, and deterioration of foam padding inside the lid. Paper manuals exhibit creasing, toning, and edge wear. Instrument appears complete with accessories present; calibration and accuracy not tested.
