Description

C-19288

Streamlined tabletop radio in deep brown Bakelite with horizontal grille slats and a dramatic half-moon dial window. The illuminated black dial features bold white numerals with dual AM and FM markings, flanked by a red pointer and framed in a brushed brass-toned bezel. The lower front panel carries the General Electric script logo at left and a central circular knob with the GE medallion, giving the piece a grounded, machine-age symmetry. The sculpted base and rounded shoulders reflect early FM-era optimism—form following function in a compact domestic footprint.

The rear Masonite back panel shows ventilation perforations, original two-prong brown cord, and antenna connection point. The interior tube layout diagram is present inside the cabinet, marked “G.E. Frequency Modulation Radio Model 408,” with tube designations and band ranges printed.

Powers on, but unable to locate a signal due to an apparent missing antenna. Cosmetic wear consistent with age including surface scuffs, light finish wear, and edge abrasions to the Bakelite cabinet. Back panel intact with age toning; interior label shows tearing and loss at corners.
