Pair of painted cast iron bookends modeled after HMS Victory, depicting the iconic three-masted warship in full sail with the name lightly etched across the top of the bow in additon to being signed "Victory" on the reverse. Each bookend features raised rigging detail, tiered sails with gilt-toned highlights, and a stepped rectangular base textured to suggest rolling sea beneath the hull. The layered casting captures the ship’s gun ports and stern detail, while remnants of original paint and gilding accent the sails against a darker body finish.
HMS Victory, launched in 1765 and best known as Admiral Lord Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, became one of Britain’s most celebrated naval vessels and a popular subject for decorative reproductions in the 20th century.
Both show age-appropriate wear including paint loss, surface oxidation, and patina variation throughout. Edges exhibit minor rubbing consistent with shelf use. No major cracks or structural damage observed. Sold as a matched pair.
