Description

C-18376

c. Late 19th-Early 20th Century; J.B. Lippincott & Co. (Philadelphia), W. B. Conkey Co. (Chicago) and Hurst & Co. (New York) Collection of three richly illustrated children’s storybooks featuring chromolithograph covers and classic period typography. Titles include Feet & Wings (J.B. Lippincott & Co., Philadelphia), Stories and Pictures of Animals (Hurst & Co., New York), and The Robber Kitten (W. B. Conkey Co.). Together they represent a charming cross-section of late-Victorian and early Edwardian juvenile literature, emphasizing moral tales and anthropomorphic adventure-hallmarks of the era’s printed storytelling. Publisher Histories • W.B. Conkey Co. of Chicago (founded 1877) was a prolific printer of inexpensive juvenile literature, Sunday-school readers, and dime novels through the early 1900s. • Hurst & Co. (est. 1871 in New York) specialized in decorative cloth-bound storybooks and early illustrated editions. • J.B. Lippincott & Co. of Philadelphia (est. 1836) was among the foremost 19th-century American publishers of illustrated works and educational texts.

Fair to good overall. Covers show edge wear, corner softening, and moderate surface soiling. Binding wear consistent with age; interiors remain intact with light toning and some foxing.
