c. 1940s-1950s; Hull Pottery – Crooksville, OH / Crown Devon – Stoke-on-Trent, England Collection of three decorative pottery pieces showcasing the soft glazes and sculptural floral motifs emblematic of midcentury Ohio pottery design. Included are an English-style ewer with ivy leaf relief and mottled yellow glaze, a Hull double-handled vase with raised blossoms in pale pink and mint tones (W-6-7 1/2), and a low speckled green Hull bowl with scalloped, pumpkin-like form. Together, they represent the postwar American taste for hand-finished ceramics that merged function with gentle Art Deco and naturalist influences. Ohio’s pottery makers, especially Hull, dominated American art pottery production throughout the early to mid-20th century, known for their rich glazes, fluid lines, and accessible artistry. Crown Devon, established by Simon Fielding in the late 19th century, was celebrated for its vibrant glazes and fine decorative ware, becoming one of England’s leading ceramic houses through the mid-20th century.
All pieces exhibit light surface wear and typical base scuffing; no visible chips or cracks.
