General Antiques and Collectibles Spring Auction
Lot 236:
Description
C-17628
This hand-crafted wooden shovel, likely intended for snow or ice, features a long round handle with a wide, flat blade secured by nails. Its simple utilitarian design reflects early 20th-century rural or farm-made tools, before mass-produced metal snow shovels became widely available. Such implements were commonly used for clearing paths, barn entries, or cutting into packed ice.
The piece shows surface wear, age darkening, and minor cracks consistent with use, but remains solid and intact. A practical survivor from an era when tools were often handmade to meet immediate needs.
