c. 1940s-1950s; Berghman Company – Chicago, IL Chromed metal Berghman skate sharpener, embossed "Berghman Skate Sharpener – Berghman Company, Chicago Ill" on the body. The sharpener features a compact clamp-style form with internal abrasive surface, designed for quick at-home maintenance of ice skates. Accompanied by its original cardboard box, which is printed with bold typography and an illustration of the sharpener, alongside the slogan "An Individual Abrasive for All Types and Makes of Ice Skates." Berghman Company, based in Chicago, specialized in mid-20th-century skate accessories and sharpening tools, catering to the growing popularity of recreational and competitive ice skating in North America.
The sharpener shows light surface wear but retains strong shine and legible embossing. The box is intact with edge wear, surface marks, and handwritten pricing, yet remains fully legible.
