c. 1930s; mfd. in Japan under license from Percy L. Crosby Painted ceramic figural toothbrush holder depicting "Skippy, " the mischievous comic strip character created by Percy Crosby. Skippy first appeared in 1923 and became one of America’s most beloved early comic strip characters, later adapted into radio, film, and licensed merchandise. This ceramic holder shows Skippy in his signature oversized hat, bow tie, and jacket, standing with hands on hips and a smirk across his face. The hollowed side panel is designed to hold a toothbrush, making it both a novelty collectible and functional bathroom accessory. Marked © Percy L. Crosby and Made in Japan on the reverse, it reflects the wave of licensed character goods produced for the American market during the interwar years.
Paint shows moderate wear and losses, particularly to the hat and jacket, though figure remains vibrant and structurally sound.
