Two-part stoneware butter crock featuring a salt-glazed cylindrical base and a rich brown Albany slip glazed insert with domed lid. The interior vessel sits neatly within the outer crock and is fitted with a hand-forged wire bail that spans across the top, terminating in a simple hooked clasp. The lid presents a glossy, deep brown glaze with natural kiln pooling and light speckling, contrasting against the matte cream-toned outer body. The insert shows impressed capacity marking “3 QT” along the side, partially softened by glaze. The outer crock remains unadorned, with subtle pitting and kiln texture consistent with traditional salt firing.
Shows surface wear consistent with age, including glaze crazing, scattered kiln pops, minor edge nicks, and oxidation to the iron bail. The insert exhibits a visible hairline crack near the rim and light glaze irregularities. Overall structurally intact with expected utilitarian wear.
