Multi-Estate Fall 2025 Auction
Lot 404:
Description
Item SKU: C-17553
Pair of flow blue waste bowls with floral decoration.
These two waste bowls, unmarked but likely from Staffordshire potteries, feature cobalt blue borders and floral sprays softened by the flow blue process. Each bowl demonstrates a distinct form: one with a scalloped, flared body and the other with a straight-sided cylindrical profile. Waste bowls were standard in Victorian tea and table services, intended to hold discarded tea dregs or scraps. Their variation in shape reflects the diversity of forms produced across Staffordshire potteries in the late 19th century, with both examples embodying the painterly diffusion of cobalt decoration typical of flow blue ware.
