c. 1960s–1970s; Gueissaz–Jaccard – Switzerland Rectangular wooden music box with hinged lid featuring a marquetry inlay of a mandolin, sheet music, and horn instruments set against a light-toned wood ground. The interior houses a mechanical music movement with pinned cylinder and comb beneath a clear protective cover, operated by a key-wind mechanism. The underside retains original labeling indicating a Swiss musical movement by Gueissaz–Jaccard with tune designation “Edelweiss, ” along with a metal wind key and four brass feet. Compact form typical of mid-century European giftware, designed as a standalone music box rather than for storage. Gueissaz–Jaccard was a Swiss manufacturer producing mechanical music movements for export during the mid-20th century, supplying components for a wide range of decorative music boxes.
Shows light wear consistent with age, including minor surface marks, light discoloration to the wood, and age toning to the underside labels. Interior components appear intact. It has been tested and works. Only plays music when lid is open.
