Description

C-18030

Grouping of four antique farm and livestock tools including: a cast iron cow bell, a brass sheep bell with leather strap, a pair of hand-forged Italian iron shears, and a wooden wool carder stamped Old Whittemore’s Patent No. 8 by L.S. Watson & Co. of Leicester, Massachusetts. Whittemore was one of the most prominent American manufacturers of wool carding tools in the 19th century, widely distributing their patented designs across the country. Together, these tools reflect the working life of 19th- and early 20th-century farming, spanning animal care, textile preparation, and the everyday soundscape of the barnyard.

Each piece shows rugged, time-worn surfaces with oxidation, patination, and wear from use, but all remain structurally intact and evocative of their utilitarian origins.
