Lot 201:
Description
C-18775
c. 1940s; Stanley Toy Co. – Oconto, WI Cast metal farm wagon and horse team toy produced by the Stanley Toy Company, featuring a green-painted dump wagon with red spoked wheels drawn by a matched pair of black horses. The horses are cast in a forward-moving stance and joined by a red-painted yoke, while the wagon body shows simple molded detailing consistent with utilitarian farm themes. The proportions and overall form closely follow popular prewar toy farm models and were modeled after the Arcade No. 408 farm wagon and team, a well-known benchmark in American cast iron toys. Stanley Toy Company was a short-lived but notable Midwestern manufacturer, established by Chester Schwedler and active from 1946-1949. The company specialized in cast-metal horse-drawn wagons, carts, and animal figures, often taking inspiration from successful Arcade designs while offering more affordable alternatives. Production ended abruptly after a factory fire in 1949, making surviving Stanley toys comparatively scarce.
Shows paint wear throughout with surface loss to the green, red, and black finishes, consistent with age and play use. Castings remain intact with no visible breaks.
