c. 1900s-1920s; Copeland Spode – Stoke-on-Trent, England; Boch Frères – La Louvière, Belgium; Staffordshire Maker Unknown Group of three antique transferware bowls representing two distinct decorative traditions of early twentieth-century European ceramics. The first example is a classic red transferware bowl in the well-known Spode’s Tower pattern by Copeland Spode of England. The design features a pastoral landscape with a stone bridge and tower framed by an elaborate floral border, rendered in the rich iron-red transfer typical of English tableware produced for domestic and export markets. The remaining two bowls are decorated with black transfer scenes commemorating episodes from the Napoleonic era. Each bowl bears a central historical vignette surrounded by ornate neoclassical ornament and wreath medallions featuring the letter "N." One scene depicts "Le Gen. Masséna devant Zurich – 25 Décembre 1799," while the other illustrates "Mort du Maréchal à Marengo – 14 Juin 1800." The underside of one bowl carries the Boch Frères – La Louvière mark from Belgium, a prominent nineteenth- and early twentieth-century ceramic manufacturer known for historical and commemorative transferware.
All pieces show moderate age-related wear including light surface marks and faint staining around the foot rings typical of antique tableware. No major structural damage observed in the photographed areas.
