Cast iron wall plaque depicting the profile of Sigmund Freud rendered as a visual optical illusion. At first glance, the relief shows a classical bearded male head in profile; however, the facial features are cleverly composed of intertwined nude female figures. The women’s bodies form the forehead, nose, mustache, beard, and chin – becoming more apparent when the image is rotated upside down. The composition plays directly on Freudian themes of sexuality and the subconscious, making it both humorous and conceptually sharp. Often titled "What’s On a Man’s Mind, " this illusion became popular in early 20th century graphic art and novelty prints. The cast iron format suggests it was produced as a decorative plaque, likely intended for hanging in a study, bar, or private interior where its double-meaning would be appreciated.
