c. 1860s-1880s; Various Photographers – Connecticut & Ohio Collection of six sepia-tone carte de visite studio portraits depicting well-dressed Victorian men and women in formal attire. Subjects include seated and standing compositions, lace bonnet and high-collar dress details, and gentleman portraits with period jackets, cravats, and spectacles. Several mounts retain printed photographer credits including "Giles Bishop, 22 State Street, New London, Conn., " "Whitney & Beckwith, Gazette Building, Norwich, Conn., " "H. V. Brown, Clyde, O., " and "Bates & Frissbie, 4 Bank Street, New London, Conn." One reverse features a decorative script advertisement reading "Worden." Carte de visite photographs became widely popular beginning in the 1860s, offering affordable album-sized portraits that could be exchanged among family and friends. The sepia albumen prints mounted on thin card stock reflect the height of small-town studio photography in the post-Civil War era. Regional imprints from Connecticut and Ohio suggest local family sitters, typical of community portrait studios serving everyday citizens rather than prominent public figures.
Age-related toning, light foxing, and edge wear present across the group. Some mounts show minor corner softening and surface discoloration. Images remain clear and legible with strong period character.
