c. 1920s; Ullrich Tinware Co. – Chicago Cylindrical tin kitchen sifter marked "5 CUP" with raised DUPLEX SIFTER branding, featuring a hand-crank side handle and internal dual-screen mechanism designed to aerate flour evenly during baking. The body is formed from rolled tin with crimped seams at the rim and base, while the fitted lid incorporates an integrated agitator driven by the exterior crank. A wire loop on the opposite side allows the unit to be steadied during use or hung for storage. This example reflects early 20th-century mass-produced kitchenware, when companies like Ullrich Tinware Co. supplied durable, standardized tools for domestic food preparation. The Duplex design was intended to improve efficiency and consistency over simple shake sifters, making it a common fixture in home kitchens and bakeries alike. The plain, functional form emphasizes utility, with branding applied directly to the working surface rather than added ornament.
