*2-Day* Fresh Barn Finds & Country Estate Auction (Day 1/2)
Lot 35:
Description
C-18883
Matched pair of bronze-finished metal bookends featuring softly curved vertical profiles and raised circular medallions centered with a stylized Gothic "B" monogram. The restrained geometry and warm bronze tone place these squarely in the Art Deco period, balancing subtle ornament with clean, architectural lines. Each bookend is formed from a single folded metal body with a wide horizontal base, providing both visual weight and practical stability on a shelf or desk. The reverse sides retain their original felt backing, intended to protect shelving surfaces while keeping the bookends firmly in place. Bookends of this type were popular desk and library accessories in the interwar years, often produced as monogrammed personal or gift items. Their design reflects the era’s shift toward simplified forms and individualized details rather than heavy Victorian ornament.
Shows light surface wear throughout including small scratches, finish rubs, and minor edge wear consistent with age. Original felt backing remains present; tape residue is visible on one bookend.
