Early electric jig saw marketed under Shapleigh’s well-known Keen Kutter line, featuring a compact cast-metal housing, integrated base plate, and rear-mounted Bakelite control knob. The green-and-yellow maker’s plate identifies this example as Model KK249, rated at 115V AC, 1.8 amps, and 2,650 strokes per minute-specifications typical of mid-century light-duty shop and home workshop tools. Designed to be either handheld or bench-mounted, the saw includes an adjustable shoe and blade guide assembly, reflecting a period when versatility and mechanical simplicity were prioritized over enclosed safety features. Shapleigh Hardware Co., founded in the 19th century, built the Keen Kutter brand into one of the most recognizable names in American tools, supplying durable, no-nonsense equipment to tradesmen and serious home users throughout the first half of the 20th century.
