c. 1950s; Guild Radio and Television Corp. – Inglewood, CA Heavy cast iron transistor radio power supply designed for Guild’s iconic "Teakettle" radio series, featuring a patriotic eagle-and-stars motif cast directly into the top surface with "HOT THE POT" lettering. The sculptural trivet-like form disguises a functional electrical component, blending novelty design with mid-century electronics. The underside retains its original metal plate and printed label reading "The Teakettle Radio Power Supply – Model 10", rated at 117V, 60 cycles, 15 watts. A cloth-covered cord exits through the base, consistent with period construction. Equal parts whimsy and utility, this piece exemplifies postwar American experimentation with playful industrial design. Guild Radio and Television Corp. emerged in the late 1940s as a West Coast manufacturer known for novelty radios and accessories, producing imaginative designs that stood apart from the otherwise conservative mid-century radio market.
