Description
C-21765
Framed commercial print reproduction of Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen’s 1905 Clinique Chéron veterinary clinic advertising poster, presented under glass. The image depicts Steinlen’s daughter, Colette, surrounded by cats and several dog breeds promoting Dr. Edmond Chéron’s veterinary clinic, sanatorium, and pet boarding house at 8 Rue des Moulins, Paris. Steinlen was a Swiss-born French Art Nouveau artist and printmaker best known for his depictions of domestic animals and the iconic Le Chat Noir poster. A label on the reverse identifies the print as part of a 1999 “European Vintage Poster” series distributed by Dayton Hudson Corporation; the label appears to be generic to the series rather than specific to this image.
Frame exhibits scattered scratches, finish wear, and several small chips and dents. Backing paper has multiple tears. The print has not been examined outside the frame.
