Description
C-21653
Two-gallon American salt-glazed stoneware crock, produced circa 1880–1910. The cylindrical vessel features a rolled rim, buff-colored salt-glazed exterior with the characteristic orange-peel texture, and a dark Albany slip-glazed interior for improved durability and resistance to liquids. A hand-applied cobalt blue “2” beneath the rim denotes its original two-gallon capacity.
Exhibits age-related wear throughout. Exterior displays scattered scratches, glaze wear, minor firing imperfections, and expected manufacturing irregularities. Interior Albany slip glaze exhibits utensil marks, staining, and surface wear consistent with use. Several chips and flakes are present along the lower edge and foot, including one larger chip, as photographed. No major cracks or evidence of repair observed.
