Lot 51:
Description
C-18842
Rectangular metal box with hinged lid and fitted interior, finished in black with hand-applied pinstriped borders in gold and red. The lid features a recessed carry handle, and the front is fitted with a keyed lock (key not present). The interior is painted black and divided by shallow internal walls, consistent with use as a cash box, document box, or small strongbox for retail or office settings. Boxes of this type were commonly used in shops, offices, and homes in the early 20th century for storing currency, receipts, deeds, or valuables, combining portability with modest security. The restrained decorative striping reflects utilitarian design with light ornament.
Shows surface and paint wear throughout, including scuffing, scratches, edge wear, and areas of finish loss consistent with age and use. Hinges function; lid opens and closes properly.
