c. 1924; Durable Electric Appliance Co. Ltd. – Toronto, Canada Compact electric heating appliance with a copper cylindrical body and cast iron end supports. The front face features a series of exposed heating elements arranged in parallel, each tensioned with visible springs and secured by a metal guard framework. A fixed handle is mounted along the top for transport. The rear retains the original maker’s plate reading “Durable Electric Appliance Co. Ltd., Toronto, Canada, ” along with specifications including 110 volts, 9 amps, and patent date Jan. 10, 1924. Form is strictly utilitarian, with a heavy industrial build combining copper, steel, and cast components. The exposed element design and spring tension system reflect early electric heating construction methods. Original cloth-wrapped power cord remains present at the rear.
Condition shows heavy wear consistent with age and use. Significant oxidation and rust present across iron components and surface of the housing. Copper body shows patina, discoloration, and surface wear. Heating elements and springs intact but untested. Power cord shows age and wear. Untested, sold as-is.
