c. 1930s; The Ohio Art Co. – Bryan, OH Pressed-steel toy shovel finished in red enamel paint, stamped Ohio Art Co., Bryan, O. near the blade. The Ohio Art Company-best known for its lithographed tin toys and later the Etch A Sketch-produced a wide variety of durable play tools during the mid-20th century. This child’s shovel features a square D-handle grip and simple welded joint at the neck, representing the straightforward construction and bright enamel finishes typical of postwar American toy design.
Displays scattered surface wear, edge rubs, and small paint losses consistent with play use.
