Description

C-18255

Small figural tobacco humidor modeled as a turbaned head, finished in a high-gloss, mottled brown after-Rockingham glaze. The piece features crisp sculptural details along the face and folds of the headwrap, with a hinged metal collar and clasp encircling the upper section-typical of late-19th and early-20th-century humidors inspired by earlier Rockingham ware. The glaze shows deep caramel and mahogany tones with characteristic marbling throughout. Humidors of this type were produced by various American potteries following the popularity of Rockingham glaze in the mid-19th century, which lent itself well to molded figural forms and pipe-related ceramics. The interior is fully glazed for moisture retention, and the underside bears an impressed mark reading "A23."

Shows light age wear to the metal hinge and band, with faint surface rubbing to the glaze; interior remains clean and intact.
