c. 1920s; Jose Escalante & Co. – Havana, Cuba Original wooden cigar box branded "Corina – J.E. Co." with "Western Shape" stenciled to the lid and sides. The exterior features clean black factory stamping including "Claro, " "3 for 50¢, " and the Corina circular logo mark. Constructed with dovetailed corners and brass-tone latch hardware, the box retains its period tobacco-shop presence. The interior lid displays the original paper label reading "Jose Escalante & Co., Corina, Extra Mild, Light Selection, Hole in Head, Western Shape, " complete with central illustrated medallion. Corina was one of the widely distributed Havana cigar brands of the early 1900s, marketed in the American trade with shape-specific designations like "Western Shape." Boxes of this type were produced for retail display and reuse, often repurposed in homes and shops long after the cigars were gone. The clean typography and restrained branding reflect export-focused Cuban cigar packaging of the era.
Wear consistent with age including surface scuffs, edge softening, and minor discoloration to the wood. The interior label appears to have doodles or light markings applied at some point. Hinges and latch intact; box displays well open or closed.
