This paired group consists of a small Japanese turned wood lidded bowl and a hand-constructed Lombok basket from Indonesia. The Japanese vessel is finely lathe-turned with a warm honey-toned finish, concentric ring detailing, and a fitted lid with a central knop. Subtle dark decorative accents on the lid add restraint without ornament overload, reflecting the balance-driven aesthetics of early 20th-century Japanese domestic wares. The Lombok basket is constructed from tightly bundled natural fibers bound with cord and reinforced with cane rings, forming a cylindrical container originally intended for dry goods or household storage. Its surface shows the honest irregularities of handwork, with a utilitarian form that privileges strength and durability over refinement.
