c. 1900s/1910s; Henry Troemner, Maker – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Brass and iron apothecary balance scale mounted on a cast iron base with enameled finish, manufactured by Henry Troemner of Philadelphia. The maker’s plate indicates Cap. 232 gm, No. 6604. The balance features twin pans (not present) and a precision beam with knife-edge bearings, used for measuring pharmaceutical ingredients and other fine materials. Henry Troemner, a German immigrant who founded his company in 1844, became one of America’s foremost scale makers, supplying balances to apothecaries, laboratories, and the U.S. Mint. His firm was renowned for accuracy and craftsmanship, and Troemner balances are still recognized as industry standards.
Surface wear and oxidation to brass; enamel base shows scratches and minor staining. Some accessories and pans are missing.
