Titles include Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House by Eric Hodgins (Simon & Schuster, 1946), Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift (Thomas Nelson & Sons), and The Family Treasury of Children’s Stories, Book Two edited by Pauline Rush Evans (Doubleday, c. 1950s). Each volume presents distinctive mid-century binding design-from the illustrated pale gray and teal spine of Family Treasury to the navy cloth and gilt type of Gulliver’s Travels. Simon & Schuster, Doubleday, and Thomas Nelson were foundational American and British publishers of the 20th century, instrumental in shaping both children’s and adult literature with accessible, artful editions.
