Lot 560:
Description
C-18021
Round leather gentleman’s collar box with stitched sides and hinged lid inset with a hand-painted pastoral winter scene, depicting birch trees, cardinals, and a red-roofed farmhouse. Boxes such as this were used to store and protect detachable collars, a staple of late Victorian and Edwardian menswear, and were often crafted with decorative flourishes to double as dresser-top accessories.
Shows surface wear, rubbing, and scuffing to the leather exterior, with some stitching loss at the edges. Interior remains intact with faded red paper lining. Painted scene retains strong color with light abrasions from age.
