c. 1950s-1960s; Felsenthal Instruments Company – Chicago, Illinois Military-issue pilot’s flight clipboard (Type MXU-161/P), produced by Felsenthal Instruments Co. and built to U.S. Air Force specification MIL-C-27734. Constructed from black anodized aluminum, this kneeboard-style clipboard includes an adjustable strap, coiled pencil holder, and a cylindrical top-mounted map light for night operations. Original "Change Code Station" flight chart remains under the spring clip. A small identification label on the base reads "Pilot Identification: C.J. Kadous", offering direct provenance to an individual airman who once used this device in the cockpit. Felsenthal Instruments Company was a key American manufacturer of aviation and navigational tools throughout the mid-20th century, producing flight computers, plotters, and precision aircraft instruments used extensively by the U.S. Air Force and Navy during the Cold War era.
Displays moderate operational wear including scuffing, surface oxidation to reverse plate, and paper discoloration consistent with cockpit use. Light assembly remains intact but untested.
