Description

C-17888

Group of four graduated brass (one is cast iron) fire hose nozzles, each with tapered cylindrical form, flared bases, and threaded or plain fittings. These nozzles were designed for attachment to canvas fire hoses, delivering adjustable water streams during firefighting efforts. Their heavy copper construction reflects durability and resistance to corrosion, hallmarks of professional-grade fire equipment of the period. Such nozzles were widely produced by American manufacturers at the turn of the century, including companies like Underwriters, Elkhart Brass, and others that supplied municipal fire departments and industrial brigades. Today, they survive as relics of early firefighting technology, valued for their sculptural utility and warm aged patina.

Surfaces show oxidation, dents, and spotting consistent with heavy use and age. Each piece retains authentic finish with varying degrees of verdigris and surface wear.
