c. 1930s/1940s; R. Esterbrook & Co. – Camden, NJ This lot includes a set of vintage steel dip pen nibs manufactured by R. Esterbrook & Co., one of America’s most prolific pen makers. The nibs are stamped "R. Esterbrook & Co. 442", a style favored for its fine writing quality. Included is a brass cylindrical storage case, once a common accessory for carrying replacement nibs securely in a pocket or desk.Esterbrook, founded in 1858, became the largest pen manufacturer in the United States by the early 20th century, producing millions of nibs annually and supplying schools, businesses, and writers across the country.
These nibs remain unused, showing bright surfaces with only light handling wear. The brass case has age patina and surface scratches appropriate to use.
