c. 1910s-1940s; Erie Specialty Co. – Erie, PA & Gilchrist Co. – Newark, NJ Set of three vintage ice cream scoops with wood handles and mechanical release mechanisms. Includes one stamped Erie Specialty Co., a company credited with pioneering spring-lever scoop designs, and one marked Gilchrist, long recognized for their soda fountain equipment. The third, unmarked, features a comparable lever-release design typical of early 20th-century diner and confectionery use. The Erie Specialty Co. was among the first to patent and mass-produce mechanical dishers in the late 1800s, while Gilchrist became one of the most trusted names in American soda fountain hardware during the early-mid 20th century. These scoops reflect the evolution of kitchen and parlor serviceware from hand-crafted novelty to standardized commercial necessity.
All three show patina, surface wear, and light plating loss consistent with heavy use. Wooden handles retain finish with handling wear. Mechanical actions remain functional.
