Lot 107:
Description
C-17484
c. mid-20th century; Rutledge Equipment Co. – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Double-sided service station price sign printed with bold black numerals on white card, advertising gasoline at 14 2/10¢ per gallon, tax at 5¢, for a total of 19 2/10¢ per gallon. The right margin includes a printed chart converting gallon quantities to total price. Produced by Rutledge Equipment Co. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the sign reflects the era when fractional-cent pricing was standard at American filling stations. Signs of this type were mounted at pumps or roadside stands, providing quick visibility of prices to motorists. Today they serve as striking reminders of mid-century gasoline costs and the marketing practices of independent service stations.
Light age toning, minor surface soiling, and edge wear from use. Printing remains strong and legible.
