Three-piece grouping of vintage pantry tins featuring two green-and-cream Spry Pure Vegetable Shortening cans and one boldly patterned Mrs. Roland’s Black Walnut Flakes can by The Martha Roland Co., Chicago. The Spry examples display the familiar triangular graphic with illustrated baker figure and printed claims for frying, cakes, pastries, biscuits, and pies. One retains more complete side panel text including recipe suggestions and manufacturing information. The Mrs. Roland’s can stands out with its vibrant geometric starburst motif in red, black, green, and cream, with central label reading “Black Walnut Flakes – Two and One-Half Pounds Net.”
All cans show age-related wear including surface scratches, oxidation to rims, scattered paint loss, and label fading. One Spry can exhibits heavier label tearing and surface distress; interiors not inspected. Graphics remain displayable with strong period character.
