Description

Item SKU: C-10353

Antique oak yard winder, also previously known as a “weasel”.

Tools like this were used in the home prior to the advent of pre-spun fibers.
On the side of the post is a wheel with four or five “arms.” Each full rotation of the wheel would wind a set length of wool, typically about a yard. With every turn, a wooden counter advanced by one notch until it reached the final peg, triggering a loud “pop.” Famously, this device and the aforementioned “pop” was the basis for the classic nursery rhyme “Pop! Goes the Weasel”.

Exhibits minor signs of wear including finish loss and small scratches throughout. Pegs at the ends of the arms come off.
