Lot 207:
Description
C-17880
c. 1890s-1910s; Brandenburg China Co. – East Liverpool, OH Porcelain occupational shaving mug decorated with a vivid hand-applied decal of playing cards and dice beneath a banner reading Lucky Spots, a logo that appears to advertise Four Aces-brand British razors. The form features a double-handled profile with ornate scrollwork and gilt trim, characteristic of the occupational mug style popular with American barbershops at the turn of the century. Produced by the Brandenburg China Company, a prominent Ohio ceramics maker known for both functional ware and decorative pieces, this example reflects the gambling motifs that became common in mugs commissioned for card players, dice throwers, and saloon regulars. The decal retains strong color saturation, framed by ornamental flourishes in red and gold.
Shows scattered loss to gilt trim, with minor wear along the rim and handle consistent with age and barbershop use.
