Multi-Estate Spring 2026 Auction
Lot 320:
Description
C-19356
c. 1920s; Wheeler-Barnes Co. – Minneapolis, MN
Tall cylindrical wooden shipping canister originally used for rock candy syrup, constructed of vertical wood staves bound by metal bands. The front retains stenciled lettering reading “PURE ROCK CANDY PACKED BY WHEELER-BARNES, ” with additional wording partially worn from age. The top features a fitted wooden lid with metal bail handle and secondary metal pour spout assembly inset into the surface. The warm honey-toned wood shows visible grain, patina, and darkened handling wear, while the metal bands and hardware exhibit honest oxidation.
Shows surface wear consistent with age and handling, including scratches, scuffs, darkened areas to the wood, and oxidation to metal bands and lid hardware. Stenciling remains partially legible. Structurally intact with solid banding.
