C-19221

c. 1930s–1940s; Spartus Corporation – Chicago, IL

Cast metal figural mantel clock depicting a saddled horse standing in profile beside a scalloped clock housing, with a reclining cowboy in relief at the base. The horse features molded bridle detail with beaded rein chain, ornate saddle tooling, and defined musculature through the legs and haunches. The clock case is framed with a stylized foliate border and rests on an integrated plinth, all mounted to a rectangular wooden base. The dial is marked “Spartus” with Arabic numerals and dark hands beneath a glass lens. The overall surface shows a darkened, aged finish, giving the piece a subdued, almost bronze-like presence compared to its brighter gilt counterparts.

Cord is worn beyond repair and will need to be replaced before use; exposed copper wire and cracks throughout. Shows surface wear throughout including oxidation, finish loss, and dust accumulation within recessed areas. Dial shows age toning and light discoloration. Wooden base has light scratches and edge wear. Untested at time of cataloging.
