Flow blue covered vegetable dish in the "Touraine" pattern.
This oval covered vegetable dish by Henry Alcock & Co. features an elegant molded base with scrolled handles and a domed lid topped by a pierced loop finial. The body and lid are decorated with cobalt floral transfers in the "Touraine" pattern, softened through the flow blue process into the semi-porcelain ground. Rich cobalt borders frame the design, with remnants of gilt adding a touch of Victorian ornament. As part of a complete table service, such serving pieces combined daily function with ornamental display, making them staples of Staffordshire production in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
