c. 1890s-1910s; Henry Alcock & Co. – Cobridge, Staffordshire, England

Flow blue oval serving platter in the "Touraine" pattern.

This semi-porcelain platter, produced by Henry Alcock & Co., carries the rich cobalt floral transfers of the "Touraine" design, softened into the body by the flow blue technique. The scalloped rim is edged with a bold cobalt border and traces of gilt, framing the interior sprays of blossoms. Large platters such as this were central to Victorian dining, intended for presenting roasts or fish while harmonizing with coordinated tableware services. Stamped beneath with the Alcock shield crest, this piece embodies both decorative flourish and functional design typical of Staffordshire’s late-19th-century production.

Exhibits one tight hairline.
